A webcam allowing the public to monitor the progress of nine Northumbria Police puppies has gone live.
The nine German Shepherd puppies (five male and four female) were born on October 15th to police dog Heidi. Heidi was born on the 4 July 2004 and joined Northumbria Police when she was eight weeks old. She has provided Northumbria Police with three litters and is now retiring.
The puppies’ father, Jack, was born on 8 January 2006 and joined Northumbria Police at five months. He attended his General Police Dog Course at police HQ, passing out to work on the streets at 12 months. Jack is one of the largest and tallest dogs in the force, weighing in at 41kg.

Members of the public can watch the puppycam over the next few weeks, before the dogs embark on their training.
The puppies are based at Durham Police’s kennels under a joint scheme.
Jack’s handler, Jason Leith, said:
“This is the first time we’ve tried using a webcam to film the dogs like this and we’re sure it will prove a big hit. Heidi has already had two litters which have gone on to become successful police dogs and we’re hoping this time will be no different.”
